DOING A TRIATHLON FOR A WORTHY CAUSE

Sweating & Giving for Nepal (yes we'd like you to sponsor us!)

On July 21st 2013 four Walkers (Johnny, Hannah, Maisie and ‘Auntie’ Shenagh) and our good friend John Hooper are hoping to complete our first triathlon, at Eton Dorney near to Windsor Castle (where the Olympic rowing races were held last year). We will each cover 750m in the lake, 20 kms of cycling & 5 km running.  Hopefully we will all live to tell the tale……………………..
Along the way we would like to raise some funds for 17 bright and aspiring kids in Nepal who, due to life’s circumstances, have lost or been abandoned by their parents and are being brought up by some dear Nepalese friends in  the Himalayan foothills.

Our friends Man and his wife Tarkit (at left below) decided to go into full-time care of some of the many abandoned children that were being brought to their church for help and who had no long-term prospects.
Dhading Children's Home 2013

They have run their home for the last 12 years in a small but loving environment and have had lots of individual successes at the local school they all go to. They have just seen one of their first boys leave after 10 years and become a successful teacher in a nearby town.

The home is Nepal Government registered and was inspected in March by the Social Welfare Ministry, who reported that the most notable aspect of the home was the happiness and self-confidence of the children.

We've been supporting them regularly for school fees and living expenses   for about 8 years. They now face a big challenge as the Nepalese Government is putting in new legislation from this September to limit the number of children per bed room. This means they need to expand their house at a cost of about £4,000.  We’re hoping to be able to raise about half of this for them (£2,000) through this sponsorship and other means.

If you are inspired to give to this (anything from £1 up!) then you can do this electronically by clicking here    which allows you to donate safely via paypal or debit card.

(Unfortunately we cannot use a charity website like JustGiving as the orphanage  is only registered in Nepal BUT if you'd like to use gift aid instead then email us at emailjaw@gmail.com and we'll send the appropriate forms)

Many thanks – and please join us at Eton Dorney, Berks, SL4 6QP on July 21st 12 noon if you can and enjoy watching us die. We’d love to see you before it's too late!!
